California Assembly Bill 708, the ingredient disclosure bill, was moved to the inactive file which makes this a 2-year bill. This Bill would have required the 20 most prevalent ingredients be disclosed on product labels and full ingredient disclosure on product websites. There was essentially no protection of confidential business information.
This outcome is the result of an aggressive industry coalition lobbying effort and participation by many NAA and WAIB members who were watching this bill closely and prepared to submit comment if the bill would have continued. A special acknowledgement from The National Aerosol Association (NAA) was given to Mike Freeman with WD-40 for his conversation with the California Assembly Speaker’s office.
According to the NAA, this is a victory for the aerosol industry. The NAA wishes to recognize the exhaustive efforts of the Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) on AB 708. The CSPA has been a leader in ingredient communication policy in California and nationally. Without its leadership, this would have had a very different outcome.
