Byron Lapin, Chairman & CEO of privately held manufacturer Clayton Corp., died suddenly at his home on Nov. 10 at age 73.
Clayton Corp., which employs about 257 at its facilities in Fenton, MO; Pacific, MO and Auburndale, FL, makes aerosol valves and plastic components for manufacturers.
Lapin was the son of the late Aaron “Bunny” and Florence Lapin. Bunny Lapin, who founded Clayton Corp., invented Reddi-wip, the first whipped cream available in an aerosol can, in 1948. The Lapin family still owns the company.
Byron Lapin earned a bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA. Prior to joining Clayton Corp., he was a talent agent for the GAC Agency in Hollywood, where he met his then future wife, Sharon Vaughn Lapin. Byron Lapin had served on the board of Dance St. Louis, of which he and his wife were supporting members. The Lapins also served as founding members of the Saint Louis Science Center’s Albert Einstein Society and were long-standing members of the St. Louis Club and Missouri Athletic Club.
In addition to his wife, Lapin’s survivors include his sister, Linda Levine of Los Angeles.
Services were held Nov. 13 at Berger Memorial Chapel in St. Louis. MO. Entombment will be in Los Angeles.
