On May 24, 2018 McBride, a European manufacturer and supplier of co-manufactured and private label products for the Household and Personal Care market, announced proposals to cease manufacturing of aerosols in the UK which would result in the closure of its Hull operations.
In recent years, the financial performance of the Group’s European Personal Care & Aerosols (“PCA”) business has deteriorated, and the aerosols business in particular has experienced extreme margin pressures, with substantial operating losses expected for the financial year ending 30 June 2018, the company said in a statement. The Group’s half year results statement in February 2018 indicated that restoring the performance of the PCA division was a top priority.
After an extensive review of possible options for the aerosols business segment, the Group is now proposing the closure, subject to consultation, of its UK aerosol production facility in Hull with the potential loss of 117 jobs. Under the proposals, closure would be completed during Spring 2019.
“McBride has enjoyed a long history in Hull and the Group does not underestimate the effect of this proposal on our colleagues, their families and the wider community,” said the company.
“We will now commence a process of collective consultation with employees’ representatives where the local management team, in close collaboration with HR, will discuss the proposal in greater detail, explore any alternative scenarios, and set out the support which would be available to any potentially affected colleagues.”
