Aerosol & Dispensing Forum (ADF) & Packaging of Perfume, Cosmetics & Design (PCD) New York 2018 has unveiled the shortlist for its Innovation Awards, with major names, such as Tiffany, Estée Lauder, Dove, Unilever, Beiersdorf, Tula and Olika all making the final stages. The winners will be unveiled live at the show, which takes place on Sept. 5–6 at the Altman Building & Metropolitan Pavilion.
The Innovation Awards, which encourage technological and creative innovations and recognize outstanding achievements in aerosol, dispensing, personal care and cosmetic packaging are in their third year. With more entries than ever before, this year was the most competitive and pioneering to date.
Alli McEntyre-Gaharan, Event Director of the ADF&PCD Portfolio, comments: “The standard of entry for this year’s Innovation Awards has blown us away. It not only shows that the industry is currently in good health, but also that the future of the industry is being considered and challenged already. The strength of the submissions tells us that we have some really exciting times ahead of us, and we are thrilled to be able to showcase these technologies and solutions at our show.”
The ADF categories are broken down into four groups – Personal Healthcare, Skincare & Sun Protection, Industrial & Technical application and Pharmacy & Veterinary. The finalists so far include Dove & Unilever for Go Fresh, DS Containers for Spiral Deboss, Beiersdorf for its Aquaphor and Montebello Packaging for its Aerosol Aluminum Impack Extruded Can.
There are six separate categories that make up the PCD side of the awards – Personal Healthcare & Skincare, Hair Care & Hair Color, Makeup & Cosmetics, Perfume & Home Fragrance, Rising Star and Indie Beauty. Baralan’s Meghan Skincare Bottle; OLIKA’s Life Minnie Natural Hand Sanitizer; Estée Lauder’s Mascara Pure Colour Envy; L’Oréal’s Colorista Spray; Coty’s Tiffany Perfume Glass Bottle, Thierry Mugler’s Aura and Perfecting Day and Night Serums by Tula, are just some of the names shortlisted for the PDF Innovation Awards.
The expert judging jury, which initially met at the FIT in Manhattan, on July 12, is made up of a who’s who of leading packaging experts, all tasked with identifying the most cutting edge technologies within the industry. The panel includes Cindy Hundley of Spray Magazine, Christophe Pradère of BETC Design, Detlev Melcher of Aerosol Europe Magazine, Lorraine Drake and Hervé Bouix of Estée Lauder, Marianne Klimchuk of FIT, Harry Bennett of Bennent Consulting, Scott Carpenter of Formulated Solutions, Eric O’Toole of Pratt Institute and Deanna Utroske of Cosmetic Design.
Alli McEntyre-Gaharan concludes: “It is fantastic to have such an exciting mix of world-renowned experts on the panel. Collectively, they cover the entire packaging community, meaning that we have the very best and brightest casting their eyes over the innovations of the future. It is not only a major coup for the show to have them on board, but also for those on the shortlist, knowing their work has been selected by such a group. It is huge praise and recognition for all of their hard work. I can’t wait to see who the eventual winners are!”
