Nexreg Offers Webinar on Emergency Phone Numbers on October 5

Written on: September 13, 2018 by SprayTM

Nexreg Compliance will host a free webinar about global legal requirements for emergency telephone numbers on October 5, 10 to 11 a.m. It will be presented by the National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC).

Chemical emergency helpline services are designed to:

  • Protect people, environment, assets and reputation (PEAR) from the effects of an incident
  • Reduce the scale and cost of incidents and prevent operational disruption
  • Comply with international regulations demanding telephone emergency response
  • Demonstrate commitments to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Responsible Care

Across the world, there are different requirements for emergency response due to supply and transport legislations and require the emergency number to be displayed, meet certain criteria and appear on a range paperwork including product labels, safety data sheets, and dangerous goods notes. Furthermore, the specific country’s requirement may be determined by its implementation of GHS, dangerous goods transport regulations, a separate domestic piece of legislation or a trade agreement. Country-specific requirements also often change.

The emergency number may need to be:

  • Answered in local language
  • Domestic / local telephone number
  • Be displayed on product labels
  • Be available 24 hours

NCEC will comment on the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC)’s new set of guidelines for the supply and transport of hazardous goods to help chemical companies deliver the best practices in telephone chemical emergency response.
