Action Technology, a Tekni-Plex business, is helping to sponsor Walking South America, a project that will examine the impact of micro plastics on the environment and animals.
The five-month project began on Nov. 8 and is being completed by “eco explorer” Francesco Magistrali, who is traveling solo and on foot in South America from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceans. Magistrali is armed with camera equipment and will collect visual data on micro plastics found in fish, birds and mammals during the journey. The findings will be tied into the communities encountered during the walk, with recommendations made regarding solutions that can improve life conditions in those areas.
“Action Technology supports environmentally-sound manufacturing practices,” said Johan Laureys, Global VP, Action Technology. “For example, we evaluate all aspects of energy use in our manufacturing facilities so that we can reduce our carbon footprint and minimize dependence on fossil fuel. We also collect our own manufacturing scrap and put it back into appropriate manufacturing processes. As such, we were pleased to sponsor Francesco Magistrali and his Walking South American project. We hope that his research will lead to environmental improvements in the region.”
Magistrali’s progress across South America can be followed via his website (https://www.beyond-exploration.com/en/walking-south-america/), Facebook and Instagram.
