Society of Cosmetic Chemists announces award winners

The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) has announced the winners of its 2023 awards, which will be presented during the Society’s 77th Annual Scientific Meeting, December 11-13, at the Sheraton NY Times Square in New York City.

“SCC is proud to recognize the innovative, cutting-edge research and advancements that our members contribute to the cosmetic sciences,” said Erica O’Grady, Chief Executive Officer of SCC.

“These winners join a long, prestigious list of accomplished professionals who have been recognized by their peers for their outstanding work in our industry,” O’Grady added.

The winners of the 2023 SCC awards are:

GREEN STAR AWARD: S
ponsored by Colonial Chemical, this award recognizes the formulator of an outstanding Green, sustainable formulation developed during the past 12-month period. This award will be presented to Alexis Forbes-Moorehead of Divinity Cosmetic Labs, LLC, for the submission Eco Botanical Hair Conditioner Pod, created by Divinity Hair & Skin Co.

YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD:
Recognizing the best paper by a young scientist under the age of 40 presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be given to Allison Garlet of BASF Corporation for the SCC76 presentation, Addressing Hyperpigmentation in Melanated Skin. This award is sponsored by Surfatech.

HANS A. SCHAEFFER AWARD: Sponsored by
SCC, this award recognizes the most innovative paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting. The recipient will be Paul Lawrence of Biocogent, LLC, for the SCC76 presentation entitled Reviving a More Than Century-Old Technology for Modern Skincare.

SHAW MUDGE AWARD: Recognizing the best paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be presented to Zhi Li, from CACPA for the SCC76 presentation Livestreaming to Win: How Chinese Indie Beauty Brands Thrive with Their Marketing Innovations on Mobile Social Platforms. This award is sponsored by the Mudge family.

SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS AWARD: Sponsored by
Hallstar, this award recognizes the best paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting that made the greatest scientific contribution to knowledge in the field of protecting against or ameliorating damage to human skin caused by exposure to UV radiation. The recipient will be Stellie Balthazard from Sensient Beauty for the SCC76 presentation entitled, How to Best Formulate Aesthetically Pleasing Mineral Sunscreen Products.

ALAN B. & JEANETTE BLACK AWARD:
Recognizing the best paper on sustainable formulation technology presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science, this award will be presented to Valerie Andre-Frei of BASF Beauty Care Solutions France SAS, for the SCC76 presentation entitled, A New Generation of Sustainable Cosmetic Peptides Obtained by Yeast Fermentation. The award is sponsored by Presperse.

JOSEPH P. CIAUDELLI AWARD: Croda sponsors this award, r
ecognizing the best article appearing in the Journal of Cosmetic Science on the subject of hair care technology. This award will be presented to authors Roger McMullen and Timothy Gillece, both of Ashland, for the article entitled, Enviromechanical Assessment of Fixative Hair Fiber Composite Films, published in JoCS 2022 | Volume 73 No. 5.

DES GODDARD AWARD: The
SCC sponsors this award, which recognizes the most innovative paper on the topic of polymer science related to cosmetics or personal care presented at the preceding Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science. This award will be presented to Ella Christine Hudson from The University of Sheffield for the SCC76 presentation entitled, Untangling Hair: A Holistic Approach to Hair Damage by Linking Biological and Mechanical Datasets.
