Easyfairs Oriex, organizer of the ADF&PCD and PLD Paris trade shows, unveiled the official list of winners of the 15th Aerosol & Dispensing Forum (ADF) Innovation Awards. The Awards strive to highlight the most outstanding aerosol packaging in the European market in 2020, and, this year, were chaired by Jean Blottière, Delegate-General of the French Aerosol Committee.
Three juries of technical packaging experts, brand professionals and journalists representing the industry voted to select the winners. The 50 industry experts evaluated the competition in order to award winners of the ADF Innovation Awards, as well as the Packaging of Perfume, Cosmetics & Design (PCD) Innovations Awards (17th edition) and the Packaging of Premium & Luxury Drinks (PLD) Innovations Awards (1st edition).
This year’s event focused on eco-design, new gestures, ergonomics, sustainable projects, refillable, reusable, connected products, recycled material, 3D printing, design, decoration, product environment, recycled aluminum, zero plastic and the new codes for luxury.
ADF Innovations Award winners were:
Winner:
KAO—Biore u The Body shower lotion for wet skin. It comes in a pouch with “Raku-raku” (“quick and easy” in English) switch and soft, dome-shaped dispensing button. It hangs so no water or air enters the pouch and is made of 50% less plastic than traditional bottles.
Certificate:
Weener Plastics—The Carl shoe deodorant actuator. The single-piece, dual spray can spray in opposite directions and is user-friendly.

L’Oréal—Garnier Fructis Compressed Aerosol Dry Shampoo in transparent PET plastic container designed by Alpla. The sleeve is from CCL Label while Coster supplied the valve and diffuser.

Farmol s.p.a—Monsavon Bio Au Lait d’Amande spray deodorant has “99.9% natural ingredients” in a fully recyclable eco-spray can.
Winner:
Tubex GmbH—TOPColours organic ink solutions for aerosol cans are free of mineral oil, palm oil, soy oil and coconut oil. They are also free of GMOs and heavy metals in binding agents. The inks are odorless and low in CO2 emissions.

Special Mention Award:
The Brazilian Aerosol Association (ABAS)—ABAS led a campaign to donate free aerosol hand sanitizers with 70% alcohol for exclusive use in public health hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. A 150mL travel-sized sanitizer in an aluminum can and a 300mL spray in a steel can (for a total of 300,000 units) were produced for approximately $800,000 with the participation of 31 companies throughout Brazil. The ADF singled out for recognition the late ABAS President Antal György Almásy, who passed away in December 2020 of COVID-19.
Winner: Beiersdorf AG—NIVEA Shower Refill Station
There was no winner in this category, but three certificates.
Certificate:
Tubex GmbH—Rexona Recycled Refreshed AP/Deo from Unilever. The aluminum aerosol can was lightweighted by 14% by slightly reducing the wall thickness and changing the shape of the shoulder. The can has 25% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and a partial powder coating that is free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)/solvents.

Unilever PLC—Love Beauty & Planet Dry Shampoo has a more than 90% naturally-derived propellant, is non-VOC, vegan, uses no animal testing and offers recyclability and recycled content in the packaging.

Aerosol Service Poland—Lesso Dose Applicator is designed especially for compressed and bag-on-valve (BOV) aerosols. Its main purpose is to teach the consumer how to use the product consciously, wherein one dose is “enough.” By pressing one of its sides, a specially-designed applicator twists and temporarily opens the valve and doses the product.
