Beginning Feb. 1, 2024, the government of New Zealand will no longer allow aerosols in curbside recycling. New Zealand is introducing standardized recycling for all curbside collections across the country to help make recycling consistent, regardless of location, and to reduce unnecessary waste going to landfill.
“The reason for excluding all aerosols in curbside recycling across the country is mainly health and safety related,” said a statement.
“Most recycling plants in New Zealand don’t have the safety equipment needed to compact aerosols in a way that prevents fires and ducts any fumes outside of the building,” the statement read.
