Mauser Packaging Solutions is planning to shut down its aerosol can business in Cincinnati, OH and Sturtevant, WI, this summer. According to a May 9 letter sent to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development in accordance with the Wisconsin Business Closing & Mass Layoff Law, “ongoing economic difficulties” was listed as the reason.
Despite the anticipated closure, Mauser is considering several options—including a potential sale, merger or other transaction—to keep operations open at the Sturtevant facility, “although no definite plans in this regard have emerged,” according to the letter.
If no alternative is found, the company intends to shutter its aerosol can operations on July 27, 2024, with layoffs affecting all 42 employees at the site.
According to a May 9 letter to customers, the firm also intend to cease the manufacturing of aerosol cans in Cincinnati, OH on or around July 27, 2024. The coil shearing area in Cincinnati, OH will continue production through August 30, 2024.
In other company news, Mauser also announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, BWAY Corp., has acquired Mexico-based Taenza, S.A. de C.V., a manufacturer of tin-plated steel aerosol, general line and sanitary cans, as well as steel pails.
“We are happy to welcome Taenza to our Mauser family,” said Mauser CEO Mark Burgess.
“Taenza’s legacy manufacturing capability and strong local presence in the Mexican markets combined with Mauser’s global network will enable us to make the Taenza business, and Mauser, more successful in the future.”
The transaction is expected to be complementary to Mauser’s existing business and provides numerous key strategic benefits, including growth opportunity in the Mexican paint, sanitary and specialty markets, and additional manufacturing locations, capacity and capabilities, said the company.
