SCC announces Madam C.J. Walker scholarship winners

The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) has announced the 2024 Awardees and Finalists for the SCC Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship, sponsored by Mary Kay.

The Scholarship Selection Committee has awarded two young scientists with a $5,000 scholarship. The recipients are Karissa Richards, an undergraduate student at the University of Toledo studying cosmetic science and formulation design, and Taylor Scott, who is a student in the Master of Science program at the University of Cincinnati studying cosmetic science.

In addition to the scholarship winners, two finalists were recognized by the Committee for their outstanding achievements are: Lauren Forney, a health science major at Spelman College, and Holly Honoré, a graduate student studying cosmetic science in the Master of Science program at the University of Cincinnati.

Awardees and Finalists receive a financial support package to attend the SCC’s 78th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase in Los Angeles, CA, where they will be recognized on stage during the Annual Awards Breakfast on December 13, 2024, and have the opportunity to present their research via poster in the Showcase.

“This year’s scholarship applicants were another impressive and accomplished group,” said Erica L. O’Grady, CAE, CEO of the Society.

“These honorees truly embody the spirit and legacy of Madam C.J. Walker, and we are pleased to recognize their achievements and look forward to their Industry contributions to come.”

Established in 2021, the Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship awards two $5,000 scholarships to specific under-represented minority students of any gender identity pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in chemical, physical, medical, pharmaceutical, biological, or related sciences and technology with an interest in pursuing a career in the cosmetics and personal care industry.
